That CNN "hologram" took 35 cameras set up in a ring! Why not just use two, synched robotic cameras - one in the studio, one on site, with the studio being a "green room", able to be completely replaced with video or 3D graphics?

That'd let the reporter in the studio "teleport" to the field location - even appearing to "walk over to Chicago" - FAR more impressive, IMO.

The main issue with the CNN setup was that it was a televised illusion. The people on set were not seeing a hologram. Only the broadcast had the integrated "hologram". It is kind ofl like the firework footsteps in China's Olympic opening ceremony. It was live action special effects. You are correct that they can do more with live action special effects. Where people are broadcasting from multiple green rooms with mobile cameras.

The Army will be showing actual live action hologram communication.
